"How to Tell If Santa Claus Visits Your House on Christmas Eve"
(2020) This assignment was for a graduate course in professional writing studies. It was a really fun project that required us to write instructions for tasks that are out of the ordinary. For inspiration, I referenced the version of The Night Before Christmas that my parents read to me as a child. I very much enjoyed this assignment since I was able to both learn and be creative.
"How Technical Communicators Should Approach Culture: An International Audience Analysis"
(2020) This research essay was done for a graduate course in writing for translation. The focus of the essay was to highlight the importance of inclusivity and neutrality in technical writing. With the world's ever-growing rates of population and diversity, authors must increase their awareness of cultural differences and other impacts that could effect how their message is portrayed and perceived. This essay explores how an author may go about researching and writing a particular piece of technical communication (an informational guide on healthcare products) for an audience of a different culture (Chinese).
"Recommendation of The Walt Disney Company for Knights Investment Group (KIG)"
(2020) This recommendation report was done for the final project in professional writing studies. The intention was to write a formal recommendation report for a fictional investment group (KIG) regarding the acquirement of a company (Walt Disney) based on the annual report and other statistical findings. This assignment provided good exposure to proper research techniques and professional, business-level writing.
"Tracing Privilege through Pedagogical Fields in TPC"
(2020) This trace paper was done for a graduate course that focused on writing for social change. This paper discusses the concept of privilege, and explores how it can both consciously and unconsciously affect the way communication is shaped by the author and received by the reader, specifically within scholarly settings and the domain of social justice.
"DOCK Proposal"
(2020) This proposal was done for a graduate course in proposal writing. The intention was to create and write a proposal for a local non-profit organization in order to learn the process of researching, outlining, formulating, and finalizing a proposal from start to finish. Ultimately, I chose Northrop Grumman as the sponsor for the non-profit DOCK because of my familiarity with and admiration for both organizations. This was my first experience writing a proposal, and I found that such a wide variety of elements were involved.
"A Reflective Synthesis of UCF's Writing and Rhetoric Major"
(2016) This reflective report was done for the capstone course during my final semester as an undergraduate. The report closely analyzes and articulates themes of learning across the coursework and other relevant experiences I had throughout the major. It is intended to translate theories, methods, and practices learned during the major, and integrate rhetorical and writing-related competencies and habits of mind to create heuristics for future metacognition.
"What is Professional Writing?"
(2014) This report was for an undergraduate course when I first began the writing & rhetoric major. The report is in memo format, and analyzes the meaning of professional writing based off of my own personal opinions, and also opinions of faculty and staff in the Department of Writing & Rhetoric at UCF. Additionally, it is comparatively explorative of different undergraduate and graduate professional writing degree programs.
