Writer's Profile
Hello! My name is Lana (she/her). In May 2016, I graduated with a B.A. in writing & rhetoric/ English literature from UCF, and in December 2021, I received my graduate certification in professional writing, also from UCF. I've been working at Northrop Grumman as a technical editor/writer since February 2019. From 2020-2022, I was the newsletter editor for GreeNG, an employee resource group at the company focusing on sustainability and eco-friendliness. Welcome to my E-Portfolio!
One of the most important skills a person can have, although often underrated, is writing. Over the course of history, writing has become a vital aspect of communication in almost every field of work. In today’s society, the act of writing has gone digital thanks to our influx of technology. This has led to a quicker sending and receiving of messages, however, going hand-in-hand with this is the act of shorthand. It is evident that writing has slowly found its way to the back burner, and a certain carelessness has evolved. This is why I want to become an editor - to resuscitate the beauty of writing with wholesome rhetorical elements.

Reading, writing, and editing have always been incredible passions of mine. Throughout my college years, I've had the wonderful opportunity to learn from some of the best professors, who are also brilliant writers and editors themselves. I most enjoy non-fiction writing, and travel writing is my main preference. I love that it brings a certain aura of fantasy, as I am able to delve into the descriptiveness of the places and the people I’ve seen, while still being factual. Likewise, I'm very familiar and comfortable writing scholarly articles and analytical essays. While I do enjoy writing immensely, editing is my true calling. I have had lots of exposure to editing through multiple scholastic projects and assignments, and I've also held a variety of careers in editing for different fields such as lifestyle publication, private investigation, and systems engineering.
My portfolio is a way for me to showcase my works and portray to the world my writing and editing capabilities. This portfolio is also a reflection of my values as a writer; I believe writing is a multi-sensory expression, as is reading. It's important for the reader to see the waves, hear the ocean, taste the salt, smell the sunscreen, and feel the breeze. The pieces I chose not only effectively demonstrate views of life through my eyes, which helps gives the reader a sense of who I am as an author and as a person, but they also reflect my growth as a writer throughout time.
